Cycling is everything.
For me, the word ‘cycling’ means freedom, calm and community. It is something that can be enjoyed alone or with others. It is about finding just how much you can push yourself yet no matter how experienced you are, there is always more to learn about yourself.
Cycling is a sport for life.
Cycling has always been a big deal in my family, a passion passed down from my grandfather and parents. About 9 years ago I got my first proper road bike. It felt like a drug, a high I couldn’t escape. I rode for hours. I was hooked.
I joined a women’s cycling group and met people who shared this new passion. From here I developed more as a rider and learnt to race. Racing was fun but hard. At times it felt demoralizing and it certainly had its ups and downs. A few scars to show for it. I no longer race but still love and enjoy my sport.
I still ride often to keep fit and active. I lead a successful group ride through the cycling shop I work at and take a lot of pleasure in watching my younger sisters develop as athletes. We enjoy each other’s company for long weekend rides, and I am their biggest fan on the sidelines when they are racing. Riding and sharing this passion with family and loved ones is very special.
Staying physically active and healthy is important to me. Along with cycling I also run, racing half marathons and marathons. I love cooking nutritious food to fuel my body for all of the adventures I go on.
